This past Saturday, April 26, 2014, almost 300 volunteers gathered in Canarsie, Brooklyn to help Rebuilding Together NYC repair and revitalize the storm-battered community. Along with repairing nine Sandy-affected homes, Rebuilding Together NYC and our volunteers completed a number of community revitalization projects to beautify the Canarsie neighborhood and make it safer for its residents. In Canarsie, Rebuilding Together NYC, along with our sponsors and volunteers:
– Replaced flooring and drywall, painted, landscaped, repaired and replaced bathrooms and a kitchen, and completed many other renovations in nine homes – Created an ADA accessible bathroom and living room for a disabled, elderly homeowner – Completed neighborhood beautification projects including painting two large murals along Avenue L – Installed 50 solar-powered safety lights to improve community safety in Canarsie by lighting up dark streets at night
Volunteers gathered at the Avenue L murals to celebrate National Rebuilding Day.
